Solicitous | Oh Silsila! How I Wish the day to come

During the hot summer day on June 30, 2009. I picked up my Economic text book to go for the usual routine. The day was strange. It was hot in the morning but the evening was cool. After the second page I went for the next and found this Economic is so tought to crack it. With the soaring temperature and the irregular light, I seem to dream a lot that day. I had thought of a Girl I knew, not another teenage crush or unrequited love. We were standing infront of the JNU SSS-I Auditorium . She was snowy fair skin, medium haired, bespectacled and was dress in our traditional attire, I guess that added to her beauty and appeal. Some naughty ZSP boys used to pass before us to used to catch a glimpses of her. At that moment I saw our Elders Pu Khakhai Zou, Pu K. Zou, Pu S.K Mung and Pu Hauliankap all armed with our traditional dress, waiting for the Chief-guest near the Auditorium entrance. Silsila asked me: “do you really thinks that Rahul Gandhi will grace our freshers meet as the chief-guest?”. And I answer Silsila, while pointing at our three elders: “Look at those mens, when they were united and work as one nothing seems impossible. It was Silsila first ZSP Fresher’s Meet-Cum-Social gathering in Delhi. She was always quite and stay close to me, trusting on my protection. My relation with Silsila was 2 Months old. We always used to send sms or call and meet once or twice in a month. Silsila came to know me better than any one had ever known me. I exposed my feeling to her that I had never revealed to any one else. I was basically a lonely solitary boy and Silsila was the first person who had ever been able to penetrate my inner shell. I led Silsila inside the hall and we sit in the first row. The meet was celebrated in style and with a different ambience. And it was held under the aegis of Zou Sangnaupang Pawlpi, Delhi branch.

The introduction of fresher’s was the most attractive of the meet. Putting up a brave face, Silsila came forward to introduce herself, while I proudly watch from my seat. After her formal introduction was over, different questions were asked to her both from the host and the audience. The idea was to make the fresher’s feel at home. And when Silsila answer her last question: “ Zou kahi in Zou tangval ma ka pasal ding in ka dei hi”. The audience roared and I was in heaven while her words wholly melt my heart. The President Miss Mary address the audience and her note:..”I must confess, the road ahead willnot always be smooth. There will still be places of frustration and meandering point of bewilderment. There will be setback here and there. There will be those moments when our dreams will be shattered and all our hopes blasted. But we must walk on in the days ahead with an audacious faith in the future. And as we continue accelerating our society in transition, we must be strong and courageous..” The president word touch us and the audience applauded her. A tear-drenched Silsila tightly hold my hand and it touch my heart.

Songs and music however dominated the programes. The longtime legendary Rock star Pu john Jamkhomang with the Red hot Chilli Peppers song “Hey oh, listen what I say oh, I got your hey oh, now listen what I say oh..” evoked a spirited response from the audience. Silsila giggle when she saw Pu Lunminthang, Rev. G. K. Joshua and Pastor Lalpu tapped their feet and drummed their fingers to the tunes and burst out when Zoulun, Kamminthang, Dodou, Dr. David Lalpi etc “dance dance” on the floor. Musical bands and artists such as Papa Jimmy, Miss Betsy and Miss Chochong among other enthralled and kept alive the gathering throughout the session. The night was long and the spirit grew, the whole atmosphere was festivity, the freshet’s smile and the audience smile was enthralling. How nice it was to be on that day. The Zou ballads like “ kaput e tanu melhoi, Leel aw leel aw sanem, Zovakhu”.. change the environ more romantic. It emotionally touch all. I wanted to hug and kiss Silsila and when I look at her, her eyes tell it all. But as soon as my lips touched her lips. I was overwhelmed by a strange feeling and in a blink of an eye, I heared that anxious song of my neighbour: : “Suun mang in zong gel ing, phung ching ding tuibang kigawm na ding..”. Suddenly I lost sight of everything. With heavy heads and exhausted body I opened my eyes and found my Economice text book on my table. Oh! I am dreaming the future that I used to dream, I am dreaming the girl that I wish to have. I am having a dream where all Delhi Zou’s elders were united, where Clan-centric, sectarianism, egoism and dialectal feeling of work have long been gone in Delhi Zou society. Oh! How I wish the day to come.

We can make it happen the day. For this, we have got to give ourselves to the struggle, the struggle to overcome clan-centric, egoism and dialectal dividended, until the end. Nothing will be more tragic to stop accelerating our transition society at this point, in Delhi. We have got to see it throught and all need to here with our pawlpi, all should be concerned about it. We may not be personally attacked or affected like our leaders. But either we go up together or we go down together. Let us rise together with a greater spirits and stand with a greater determination. And let us move on with the flying flag of the ZSP and make ZSP and ZYO what it ought to be. And let us move forward hand in hand, beyond clan-centric, sectarianism, egoism and dialectal disintegration. Then We shall over come and the day will come..!

How Do I Served My People?

“I add something special to Mannu life”

The day before the Easter Sunday 2009, I caught a bus to come to Lamka from Singngat. Since it was going to take around one and half hours to reach my destination. I had brought a book along to read on the way. I boarded the bus and sat down on my seat (Number 23) and next to me (Number 24) sit a man from my own village. After settling in, I began to read. The man who sat beside me was a middle aged man who cannot read or write, hailing from Behiang village and settling at Singngat for his childrens education. As soon as the bus moved he started talking with the man sitting behind us. Some ten minutes later, he was done and then for want of anything else to do, started peering into the book I was reading.

In between turning pages, I caught him looking at my book. I looked at him and before I could say anything, he asked me: “ Na laibu sim bang tangthu e?”. I told him tha book’s name and give him an outline of the plot. He seemed quite interested in getting to know the whole story. So, I told him the whole story again with some more details up till the point that I had read it. He seemed a little unhappy that I couldn’t tell him the entire story. He asked me if the same book will be found in Churachandpur. I told him it was possible. He said: “ Ka neulai apat Mahatma Gandhi tanchin kaza, aban kathei be ut hi”. I smiled and told him that even my grandfather do that. A little later, he turned to me with a piece of paper and asked me to write down the name of the book’s. I obliged, and write “ My experiment with truth an Autography of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi”. And told him that it was written by Mahatma himself and told him that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was his full name.

Curious, I asked him why he wanted the book’s details. He told me that he had a daughter name “Mannu”, who was in Class-IX at St. Joseph School Singngat and that he wanted his daughter to read good books and become “Big” in the future. I told him I knew Mannu well and she is bright and told him to encourage her to read not only her school subject but also read from some out book. We reached our destination (Lamka) and went in our separate ways. But that illiterate man thrist for knowledge, make me wonder the whole day and I began hunting the book’s myself in every book store in Churachandpur but could not found it at all.

The day I pack my luggage for Delhi. I called Mannu to my house and present the book’s (My own book) to read for herself and to read it to her father. Forty days has passed since I reached Delhi and on June 14, 2009 evening I got one STD call from Home: “Na laibu simnop huai kasa mama hi,…, a English katheilou tam hileh jong ka phat tuampi hi..blah..blah.blah..!”. Mannu thanked me that day for my book and I knew my small contribution did bear fruits, its make Mannu happy and satisfied her father. And I smiled, and all sort of hometown memories haunt me and I began to miss my hometown.

Serving and loving the Zou (Our nation/ tribe) doesn’t only mean donating one Volleyball, football or donating money. Its also means helping its people, helping the Zou down-trodden people, its also means adding something special to someone’s life in our own small way. At times we needn’t do a lot to know all. All we need is a little patience and we might end up adding something special to someone’s life. I hope to run someday into Mannu again and tell her, under the moonlit night, the story of the new book I have read from beginning to end, “The Quest for freedom and dignity”.

The Face of the Zou Metropolitan Society

It is an unfortunate fact that most of our elders could not see the reason of our pawlpi’s (Student and Social) tragic illness- that is the frequent clashes and the cold war type terrorist disturbance in our society. Even worse some elder had planted seeds of “Revenge and hatred” toward the pawlpi’s and its leaders. Verbal punch are so frequent and deep rooted in our society. Each and every individual is getting tired of this tragic illness, but could not shun them totally. No word I found it befitted, can express its actual horrible state and its dreadful consequences. It seems there is no intellect individual to protect and shield us in this civilized age.

The root cause of the internecine feuds, in my humble opinion is, ideology difference and egoism of our elders. The Pre-ZOD Zou society had its share of moderate, political and cultural revolutionary and extremist type of ideologies as well, but the Post-ZOD Zou society is facing an outburst of a new unwanted ideology i.e. Clan-ism and Egoism. Unfortunately, our present soci-political environs are contaminated with petty minded people who further sectarian, clannish and dialectal feeling to secure power, boast his-self and show supremacy. Giving no regard to our forefather ideals of Zou unity, our parents body needs of intellectual individual and not to forget the timeless ideologies of our pioneer in Delhi. Swapping side for the sake of one clan leader and verbal punch of our leaders have become the order of our day.

Some so called Zou lover intended to leads his juniors by means of violence, propagating propaganda about the identity of our leaders, asking the faith of one is brewing up in our society. It’s really hateful when people ask about one real identity, this should not be practice in the future and especially in drunkenness. We all love Zou and there is no question about it. Well, it is always better late than never, we should be optimistic rather than pessimist and should learned from the simple Zoudawn people on how they well organized their society and in all how humble they were in their opinion and idea.

During my recent tour to some Zodawn village like Phaibem, Lunmual, Kullian etc. I found out how these people well organized their socio-political and religious welfare. No idealism and ego clash. The villages chief and elders was always ready to sacrifices their ego and ideals for the betterment of their society and villages. Can not our elders learn something from these people. ? Our society in Delhi revolves around personalities of some elder who may either be charismatic or clan- Leader. It is time that the students and elders must learned egocentric, clan-centric and sectarianism would not awaken and rise our community. It is time we must learned clannish and dialectal feeling of work will leads us nowhere in this metropolitan city. And it is time Zou intellectual come out and ponder this issue, and every individual should come in the mainline to accelerated the process of our society in transition. May be we fall once so low, but let us see how high we can rise in the future.
